Haiku Trail: City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii

The Corps manages over 4,000 park facilities and has tens of thousands of miles of water frontage on the lakes and rivers. Our assignment was to create a standard signage system that would effectively identify facilities, guide visitors to facilities on roads and trails, and inform visitors of procedures or safety issues. The resulting contemporary-looking program unified visual communications to visitors. Monthly costs were reduced by over $1 million with a computer-based management program and high-quality signs. The Corps greatly reduced costly liability claims. This signage project received the NEA Federal Design Achievement Award.
