Haiku Trail: City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii

The Haiku Trail consists of 3,900 stairs up a sheer 2,400-foot mountainside to a military antenna system used during World War II. The Honolulu Parks agency asked Meeker & Associates, including Bruce Hopkins as writer, to prepare safety signage after a few fatalities at other park facilities. The assignment was to quantify the hazards and provide potential hikers with information they need to safely climb the stairs. Our solution combines panels describing safe practices for ascent and descent, a digital terrain and section map, and information on hiking procedures.
